Dear Pooh

I discovered this morning that the Winnie-the-Pooh was published 100 years ago, on October 14, 1926.

I grew up listening to Mum read me stories of Pooh Bear. The “red book” was my favourite, but I couldn't get enough of him and his world. Mum had a soft voice, an impersonated all the different characters with love and conviction. It was my parallel universe.

“ Winnie-the-Pooh cover” book cover. Winnie-the-Pooh red cover, Methuen & Co, London 1962 Ed.

Pooh Bear often came up in our discussion, right until she passed three years ago. It was always a source of laughter and tenderness, and wisdom.

In turn, I read those stories to my children, alongside many other bed time stories, in my own way, exploring worlds and living adventures through spoken words and shiny eyes — until I fell asleep…

Those stories are full of love, modesty, self-confidence, trust, friendship, wit, and humour — for every age.

Happy anniversay my favourite bear ❤️
